Tap Out

When a training partner feels increasing pain, senses that an injury might occur, or is under significant distress they will tap you, the floor, his or her anatomy somewhere, or any other surface that will attract your attention. The purpose of the tapping is to let you know that you must immediately release your grip and remove any pressure from your partner. The key word is “immediately.” It means right now, not after you try a couple of more things or shift your grip to see if that will work better. Tapping out means, “I have a serious problem here and need immediate relief.”
