Naihanchi Nidan Kata

This second Kata in the Naihanchi series introduces some additional movements and is a bit more complex than the first Naihanchi Kata . It is not dramatically different, however and utilizes some of the same movements you practiced in Naihanchi Shodan. As with all Naihanchi Kata the learning curve is relatively steep. Take your time and focus on each individual step below until it can be done without any conscious thought.

Again you will notice some variability in the sequence of blocks and strikes among various martial arts styles, but the Naihanchi Kata look remarkably similar from one style to another. But there can be some obvious differences. Some styles such as Shidokan Shorin Ryu, use an elbow or forearm in steps Ju Ni and Ju Nana below. See if you can envision practical Bunkai for the sequence of movements and postures they employ.

You will again find heavy reliance upon Octagon abbreviations throughout the procedure for this form. Refer to the Octagon article at the bottom of this page if you are unfamiliar with these abbreviations.
