This first Pinan Kata focuses a great deal on stances and stance transitions, blocking and striking combinations, and a variety of martial arts fundamentals such as looking in the direction that you will move before you initiate your movement. As with all things in the martial arts, you will be expected to execute these Kata with a higher level of precision than you likely did when performing the earlier Kihonteki Kata.

Hachi | Maintain the Kokutsu Dachi while quickly performing a Migi Tate Tettsui Uchi toward angle 4. |
Ku | Step forward with the left leg to angle 7 into a Migi Zenkutsu Dachi and deliver a Hidari Oi Tsuki toward angle 4. |
Ju | Rotate slightly to the left to avoid crossing centers and look in the direction of angle 1. |
Ju Ichi | Step with the left leg to angle 5 into a Hidari Zenkutsu Dachi as you deliver a Hidari Gedan Barai to angle 1. |
Ju Ni | Without stepping, perform a Hidari Age Uke toward angle 1. |
Ju San | Open the left hand and press your structure slightly forward (possibly using the open hand as a push or a parry). |
Ju Yon | Step forward with the right leg to angle 7 into a Migi Zenkutsu Dachi as you deliver a Migi Age Uke to angle 1. |
Ju Go | Open the right hand and press your structure slightly forward. |
Ju Roku | Step forward with the left leg to angle 5 into a Hidari Zenkutsu Dachi as you deliver a Hidari Age Uke to angle 1. |

San Ju | Shift your weight slightly onto the right leg to avoid crossing centers, rotate clockwise (toward angle three) as you rotate the right foot to point toward angle 3 and thereby establishing a Migi Juji Dachi F3. Hands should be up in guard position. |
